We were so pleased we found this and can't wait to go back! View was even better than expected = huge majestic mountains just across the bay. There are tables and chairs in the garden if you are blessed with some sunshine and warm weather to eat your dinner, but if it is colder you can sit in the little conservatory for your meals and enjoy the view from there. There is a useful fridge and microwave, but fish and chips locally and also of course fantastic cafes and pubs etc. We had amazing freshly smoked trout and chilli monkfish at the Badachro (lochside) Inn about 3 miles away, and a peaceful drink close to that at the beautiful Shieldaig (lochside) Hotel, (don't get confused with the other Shieldaig near Torridon). Port House I think is great value for money as Highland prices are very expensive. To stay in a hotel will cost you around double this, and sharing a bathroom with a couple of other bedrooms, when many guests will be out the whole day, is really not a problem, after all we all share a toilet in a cafe, and there is an extra loo downstairs. There is plenty to do locally - for climbing mountains you are half way between An Teallach and the Torridon mountains. There is an amazing gardens nearby called Inverewe Gardens - stunning in the spring and summer but am sure would be worth a visit any time. We went on the Orange glass bottomed boat trip in Gairloch Harbour. I was worried it would be for children but out of 6 or us there was only one child. The boat trip took us to seal island, and the skipper picked up his creel which had caught a starfish (the brave amongst the passengers got to hold it!) and we all enjoyed the views from the boat. We also did a bird of prey/owl flying session at the above mentioned Shieldaig Hotel. Visited the beautiful Melon Udrigle beach, and the fascinating Gairloch Museum. I think there is pony trekking for children near Gairloch. There is a nice cafe at Torridon and if you wish to drive a little further than Torridon then the walk around the Shieldaig peninsular (this is the FAR Shieldaig, not the Shieldaig close to where you will be staying) is absolutely stunning on a sunny day, and doable for anyone of moderate fitness (find the write up for the walk on the Walk Highlands website - if you type in "Shieldaig Peninsular Walk Highlands" it will come up.) I hope this write up will encourage you to book and you will have a great holiday. Ian the host is extremely helpful and at home from around 3 pm every day. He lives downstairs so you can knock on the door if you need anything and he will be glad to oblige.

The value for money at this hotel was excellent, with a comfortable room and beautiful views of Loch Gairloch. The location was fantastic, and the staff, especially Ian, were friendly and accommodating. The outside seating area and close proximity to a delicious fish and chip shop were added bonuses.
The only improvement I would suggest is to have a wider breakfast options.

The outside seating area was great for enjoying our meal from the nearby chippy. The room was comfortable and we appreciated having a fridge and microwave, as well as crockery and cutlery provided. Ian, the host, went above and beyond to ensure we were able to access the property. Despite a few drawbacks, overall I would highly recommend this hotel for its breathtaking location and comfortable accommodations.

The location of the hotel was absolutely stunning, nestled in a beautiful and peaceful area. The view of the surrounding landscapes was breathtaking. the host, Ian, was extremely friendly and provided helpful information about local amenities and attractions. I also appreciated the convenient car parking that was available.
I found the price for a one-night stay to be quite steep, especially considering that breakfast was not included. the lack of communication with the staff or hosts was frustrating, as we were unable to reach them for assistance.
